There are two principal routes to Non Domestic Accreditation:
- Approved Prior Experiential Learning (APEL)
- New entrant qualification
If you are currently an experienced professional working in non domestic buildings, your existing experience may be sufficient to allow you to join the Elmhurst Accreditation Scheme through the APEL route, providing you can demonstrate that you have satisfy the knowledge, understanding, requirements and performance criteria set out in the relevant National Occupational Standards (NOS).
Elmhurst currently offers the following specialist APEL accreditation options, suitable for non dwellings and public buildings:
- APEL Non-Domestic Energy Assessor Level 3 and 4 (new and existing buildings)
1. APEL Non-Domestic Energy Assessor Level 3 & 4
Please click here to download the APEL Non-Domestic Energy Assessor Level 3 & 4 Training & Accreditation application form
Our APEL accreditation for Level 3 & 4 Non Domestic Energy is a route that provides the training and assessment necessary to enable experienced persons to produce EPCs for non-domestic buildings, both new and existing, using the SBEM methodology. The application form outlines the programme and entry requirements and accreditation is automatically included in the application for this course.
Please note that the APEL training route has been designed to suit people who have at least two years technical experience working on the design, construction and / or the energy assessment of non domestic buildings, such as services engineers, architects, technologists, construction managers or building control etc. If you do not meet this requirement, you will not be accepted on this APEL course at this time.
New Entrant Qualifications
If you have little or no experience with Non Domestic buildings then the New Entrant qualification will be the training option suitable for you. The awarding body for our new entrant’s courses is City and Guilds.
Level 3 Certificate for Non-Domestic Energy Assessment (Non Domestic Energy Assessor)
Please click here to download the training application form for City & Guilds Commercial Level 3 Certificate for Non Domestic Energy Assessment
The Level 3 Certificate for Non Domestic Energy Assessors is a City and Guilds qualification. On meeting the requirements of the the Certificate, the Assessor can seek Accreditation from a Government approved Accreditation body, such as Elmhurst Energy, as a Non Domestic Energy Assessor (NDEA) and can then produce EPCs for less complex, existing non dwellings which have commonly occurring characteristics.
Level 3 buildings consist of those with simple heating systems (less than 100kw) and natural ventilation or a small cooling system (less than 12kw). iSBEM is the software used throughout the training, therefore you will automatically gain a certificate of competence and will be able to lodge EPCs using iSBEM once accredited.
Level 4 Certificate for Non-Domestic Energy Assessment (Non-Domestic Energy Assessor)
The Level 4 NDEA Diploma is a top-up to the Level 3 training and gives Energy Assessors the qualification required to assess both new and existing non domestic buildings. There are a small percentage of non domestic buildings in the UK which are outside the scope of a Level 3 and 4 assessor as they cannot be adequately modelled in SBEM (e.g., buildings with atria, demand controlled ventilation, night time ventilation strategy etc.)
